The Most Tender Braised Chuck Roast Recipe
This chuck roast recipe is a hearty and comforting dish perfect for a family dinner. It combines well-seasoned chuck steak with simple ingredients - like salt, pepper, and butter - to make an out-of-this-world meal. Plus, it's so easy to make too. Just a handful of steps are all you'll have to follow to put it together.
Ingredients
- 3-4 lb chuck steak
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon neutral oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 5 cups water
- Mashed potatoes
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 180C/350F. Place a cast iron skillet or a heavy bottomed oven-safe pot over high heat. Season the chuck steak with salt and pepper on both sides.
2. Add the olive oil and butter to the skillet/pot. Place the meat in the skillet/pot and sear for a few minutes until golden brown. Flip and sear for a few more minutes. Sear the sides as well then take off the heat.
3. Allow to cool for 2 minutes then pour the water in. loosely cover with aluminum foil or place the lid slanted, leaving a small opening.
4. Transfer to the oven. Bake for 3 hours in total, flipping half way through. Check on in it every 20 minutes in the last hour to ensure the water haven’t dried up.
5. The meat is ready when it falls apart when poked with a form. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes.
6. Serve with mashed potatoes and garnish with chopped parsley.
