I Can't Get Enough Of These Chicken Wings
Anyone who knows me knows that chicken wings will always be close to my heart. I have been cooking wings for years and years and years now, and I have experimented with hundreds of wing recipes - mostly deep-fried ones though.
Well, I can honestly say that these pan-fried chicken wings are up there with any of the fried versions I've done. I like to serve them when my friends and family come round to watch a game or just hang out, and they're always a hit. Almost every time I make 'em they're all gone by the time the game/party is over.
I can pretty much guarantee if your loved ones are anything like mine, you won't have any leftover wings the next day!
Ingredients You'll Need
You don't need any fancy ingredients to make this recipe, which is just another reason why it's so amazing!
Check out what you need for the wings:
- 1lb. chicken wings - whole wings or separated both work great, but you should leave the chicken skin on for the most delicious crispy wings
- 1 tablespoon avocado oil - for frying chicken wings.
And for the marinade:
- ½ tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 teaspoon brown sugar
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- ½ teaspoon dried dill
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- salt and black pepper (to taste)
How To Make Pan Fried Chicken Wings
Step 1: Make the wing marinade
Start by adding all the marinade ingredients to a large bowl. Taste it to make sure the balance is just right.
Toss the chicken wings in the marinade until they are fully coated in it and then chill them in the fridge for 4 hours.
Step 2: Pan fry the wings
Add the oil to a large cast iron skillet and heat it over high heat. Add chicken wings to the hot oil and sear them on all sides. Reduce to low heat, cover the chicken, and cook wings for a further 20 minutes, flipping intermittently until all sides are golden brown.
Step 3: Serve and enjoy
Rest the wings on a wire rack - or some paper towels - for a minute or two to drain any excess oil from them. Then, coat 'em in your favorite wing sauce and enjoy!
What to Serve With Pan Fried Chicken Wings
These chicken wings already have an amazing marinade, but they go great with a delicious dipping sauce. You can try hot sauce, ranch dressing, buffalo sauce, BBQ sauce, or one of my favorite sauce recipes, like this sweet chili sauce or this homemade McDonald's Szechuan sauce.
Recipe Pro-Tips
- Experiment with different flavors. I always prefer a simple recipe that can be adapted for personal tastes and this is one of them. You can add loads of fantastic ingredients to your marinade if you'd like to. I like to add smoked paprika, red pepper flakes, soy sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder from time to time to mine.
- Check the internal temperature. Undercooked chicken can not only make you sick, but it also has a super rubbery texture. So, with that said, make sure to use a meat thermometer to make sure your wings are done. The internal temperature should be at least 165°F on them.
- Make more than you think you need. Okay, this may not exactly be a recipe tip, but you will thank me when your guests are bugging you for more!
Storing and Reheating Instructions
In the fridge: To store your leftover wings - if there are any - simply transfer them to an airtight container and put them in the fridge. Eat them within 3-4 days.
In the freezer: To freeze your wings, transfer them to an airtight container - or freezer-safe bag - and store them in the freezer for up to 4 months.
Reheating: The best way to reheat wings is to transfer them to a baking sheet and put them in the oven at 350°F for about 15 minutes. You can also air fry them for a few minutes until hot throughout. If you are reheating frozen wings, allow them to thaw out first.
Pan Fried Chicken Wings Recipe FAQS
Can I Bake The Wings in the Oven?
Yes, you can bake these wings in the oven. If you do, you'll want to plan on them taking around 30-45 minutes in an oven set to 400°F.
Is it Better to marinate the Chicken Overnight?
You can definitely marinate the wings overnight, but 4 hours is enough to get all the incredible flavor you're looking for out of it.
Can I Use a Different Oil for Pan Frying the Chicken?
You should always use cooking oil with a high smoke point for frying to stop the oil from burning. I use avocado oil for my recipe, but canola oil, peanut oil, or vegetable oil will all work well, too, if you prefer.
