Chicken Big Mac Copycat Recipe
I’ve always loved the classic Big Mac, and when McDonald's came out with the chicken Big Mac, I loved it even more. I mean, you can't beat a crispy chicken sandwich with the Big Mac sauce and toppings, right?!
Well, I took the crispy chicken patties McDonald's makes to a new level! The chicken is juicy and the breading is extra crispy and flavorful. The homemade Big Mac sauce adds an extra layer of flavor, and the toppings tie it all together.
Plus, this copycat recipe is surprisingly easy to make! It's so much fresher than getting it for takeout too.

How to Make McDonald's Chicken Big Mac
Step 1: Prepare and Shape the Chicken Patties
Mix the ground chicken with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Shape the mixture into 4 patties, coat in corn starch, and place on a baking sheet. Freeze for 90 minutes to firm up.
Step 2: Make the Big Mac Sauce
In a bowl, combine mayo, ketchup, chopped onion, chopped gherkin, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and vinegar.
Mix the sauce ingredients together, and then refrigerate until ready to use. Your sauce will look the picture of mine below once it's fully mixed.
Step 3: Prepare the Batter and Heat Oil
Whisk together water, flour, corn starch, egg, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and onion powder until smooth. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan for frying.
Step 4: Fry the Chicken Patties
Dip each frozen patty in the batter, ensuring it’s well-coated, and fry in hot oil until golden brown. It takes me about 7-8 minutes to cook them to perfection.
Once fried, place on paper towels to drain and top two patties with cheese.
Step 5: Assemble the Chicken Big Mac
Spread Big Mac sauce on the bottom bun, add lettuce, a chicken patty with cheese, and the middle bun layer.
Top with more sauce, lettuce, onion, and the second patty. Finish with the top bun and enjoy while warm!
Expert Tips
- Freeze the Patties: Freezing helps the patties hold their shape while frying and prevents them from falling apart. So make the patties ahead of time!
- Use a Deep Fry Thermometer: Keeping the oil at 350°F ensures the patties cook evenly without becoming greasy.
- Let the Sauce Chill: Allowing the Big Mac sauce to sit in the fridge helps the flavors meld. I usually make it the day before.
- Serve Immediately: The Chicken Big Mac is best enjoyed fresh and hot, so dig in as soon as it’s assembled!
How do I store and reheat leftovers?
Store any leftover chicken patties in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. The Big Mac sauce will last in a sealed jar for about a week.
You'll want to wait to assemble the sandwiches until you're ready to eat.
To reheat, I'll put the chicken patties in the oven at 350F for about 10 minutes, then melt the cheese on top before assembling.
